For years as a professional selling high value software and consulting, I struggled to improve my skills and make selling less arduous, less emotionally draining and anxiety-filled.
I’d read books, listen to tapes and attend seminars and workshops. I’d make modest improvements, sometimes short-lived. Maybe the same thing has happened to you as you try to learn something complex:

So many of the “sales techniques” that I learned left me feeling like I needed to steamroll over my prospects questions and concerns, and try to manipulate them into saying “yes”. You’ve probably had salespeople try to use those old tricks on you:
- “You want that in red or blue, Carol?” …before you’ve made any kind of decision on what you really want.
- “I can have it delivered Tuesday or Thursday…check or credit card?”
- “Can’t you just see yourself tearing down the highway in this little red sport car!”…when you started out saying you needed a van for your business or your kids’ sports equipment.
- “Seriously, Jane, you’re not going to beat this price anywhere else. You don’t want to let this one get away. When they’re gone, they’re gone!”
- “What’ll it take to send you home with this little beauty TODAY?”…when you’ve made it clear you are in the first steps of your research.
I realized I just couldn’t stand this anymore. I was ready to leave the industry when I finally stumbled on some initial pieces of what I train today. I had felt there must be a way to sell, to have an honest conversation between the prospect and me! And I was able to begin building the process that is Kick Butt Sales Training™ (KBST™) . Since you’ve been in the classes, you know how natural you feel – and how candid and respectful both you and the prospects get to be. No tricks and no manipulation!
But I discovered that there was a final critical piece that I needed to really master and own the skills. And the critical piece that made the big difference for me was this – the chance to learn it again and again, and the chance to do dress rehearsal before I tried out my new wings. For years I’ve resisted giving workshops and seminars unless there is provision for follow on coaching included in the program. I’ve told more than one company to take the money and throw an employee party – they’d get as much benefit without the ongoing coaching.
